Cookie Policy
This site uses two cookies, both for understanding which articles find readers. Nothing else — no advertising, no third-party tracking, no social pixels.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to remember. Most websites use them. They can store anything from a session ID (so the site knows it’s you between page loads) to detailed advertising profiles. We use the small kind, not the detailed kind.
2. What we use
Two cookies, both first-party (set by joannaprescott.com itself):
_ga— Google Analytics 4. Tells us how many people visit and which articles they read. The data is aggregated. We never see your name, email, or anything that identifies you personally._ga_G-G8HX3WH8YP— Google Analytics 4. Same purpose. Helps Google distinguish your visit from someone else’s so the count stays accurate.
That’s it. No advertising cookies, no third-party tracking pixels, no social media cookies.
3. What we don’t use
- Advertising or remarketing cookies.
- Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or any social media tracking pixels.
- Affiliate-network or behavioural-tracking cookies.
- Cookies that follow you across other websites.
4. How long they stay
_ga— up to 2 years from your last visit, then expires._ga_G-G8HX3WH8YP— up to 2 years from your last visit, then expires.
The aggregated data behind these cookies is held in Google Analytics for 14 months and then deleted automatically.
5. Your choices
When you first visited this site, a small banner asked whether you accept these cookies. Three things can happen depending on what you chose:
- If you accepted, the cookies are set and we see aggregated visit data.
- If you declined, the cookies are not set and Google Analytics is not loaded at all.
- If you haven’t chosen yet, the banner is still being shown and nothing has been set.
Your choice is remembered for 6 months in your browser’s local storage. After that, the banner asks again — so you can change your mind without effort.
6. How to change your preferences
You can change your mind any time. The button below clears your stored choice and reloads the page, which makes the banner reappear so you can choose again.
You can also block analytics cookies system-wide using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. That setting takes precedence over anything you tell us here.
7. Contact
